Creating our ovens.
Preheating our ovens.   It was an overcast day, so we preheated our ovens prior to cooking in them.   The temperature got between 35-40 degrees C.   What is that in degrees F?

Ice Cream Experiment

8/26/2024

Today, we made ice cream six (6) different ways.   Mrs. Hoggatt’s classroom was a ‘little’ loud today.

Trial 1 - Two (2) paint cans, one inside the other, ice and rock salt
Trial 2 - Two (2) paint cans, one inside the other, ice and NO rock salt
Trial 3 - One paint can, ice and rock salt
Trial 4 - One paint can, ice and NO rock salt
Trial 5 - Ziploc, with ice and rock salt
Trial 6 - Ziploc, with ice and NO rock salt

After 15 minutes, we checked on the ice cream and recorded the temperature of the ice slurries.

Trial 1:  -13 F
Trial 2:  0 F
Trial 3:  -7 F
Trial 4:   0 F
Trial 5:  -9 F
Trial 6:  2 F

Ultimately, only two (2) made soft serve ice cream and the rest got ice crystals.

Trial 1:  Ice cream after 29 minutes of shaking
Trial 5:  Ice cream after 22 minutes of shaking
What lesson did Mrs. Hoggatt learn today?  One student does not appreciate my Mexican Vanilla (and probably will never eat anything baked by me, with vanilla in it).
NOTE:   Videos are LOUD!
