Post Camp Memories #2:   Lodging - Educator

9/28/2026

During my adventures in Huntsville, Alabama, I had the opportunity to stay at two wonderful locations.   One was the Huntsville Marriott on the campus of the US Space and Rocket Center, and the other was the new Nexus on Holmes dorms at the University of Alabama, Huntsville.   Both places were beautiful and clean.

Huntsville Marriott is on the campus of Space Camp (i.e., US Space & Rocket Center).   My first room was actually on the backside of the building where I spent most of my week (Education building).   It was a comfy modern room with wonderful beds, and they gave us a little spray bottle of essential oils (probably lavender mix) to spray on our pillows at night.   Breakfast was wonderful; you had the option of a buffet, or you could order something from the menu.   They had a nice common area at the entrance, and they allowed 38 teachers and students to hang out, play card games (we may have gotten a little too into the games a few times), and a nice conference area for our Friday lunch, speakers, and sweets exchange.

On Saturday, the educators moved into the Nexus on Holmes dorms for our stay at Space Camp.   These dorms were new (you could still smell the newness) and beautiful.   We were about 10 minutes from Space Camp.  It would be an awesome place to stay in college (we were just to the edge of campus, but walking distance to most buildings).

My dorm was a four-bed, four-bath.   The two outer rooms had ensuite bathrooms, and the two inner rooms had a bathroom across a little hallway.   In the center of the four bedrooms was a living area and a kitchen and dining area.   We also had a shared washer and dryer (which was VERY HANDY).   Each room had a bed (that could be lowered or raised – ours was in the tallest setting, so I had to jump into bed 😊), a desk, dresser, and open closet.   The bathroom had a full tub and shower.  The bed was a little hard for me, so I spent a few nights out on the couch in the common area.

Our last night was back to the Huntsville Marriott for a quick night before heading home.   The management was so impressed by the students in the group the first few nights that they gave us a ballroom for a going-home party.   They provided chips and salsa, a popcorn bar, and an ice cream bar.
