Post Camp Memories #1: Food

I just wanted to let you in on some of the different things about Space Camp.   I had some ask about the food situation at camp.   It wasn’t 5 Star by any means, but it was good.   They had a system that worked to feed over 1000 a day and it worked.

Each item was in one of those little red boats you can get at a ball game.   So, far breakfast you would grab a boat with each of the following items:  sausage patty, biscuit, eggs, a chicken strip, tator tots, and a waffle.   Then you could get a bowl of cereal, a carton of milk and/or chocolate milk, or a a yogurt container or two.   Coffee was available for teachers.  Drinks in the morning were Minute Maid orange, apple, or fruit juice.

The little boat system was used for each meal.   Just remember each item was in its own little boat.

Soda was available for each meal.   But, if the temperature was 100 or higher, soda fountains were shut off, and water was only available.   Water bottles were given to everyone upon checking into camp.   Most would fill their bottles with ice and water as they headed out for a day's adventures. Unfortunately, some of the teachers and I may not have been the best examples – we would fill our bottles with ice and pop when available.

My international friends had lots of questions about the food we were given, and it became a game as to what this was.  We even had a rainbow of food for the week, and we were able to find all the colors of the rainbow in our food. – we actually discovered 10 colors in our food.
