Mission Log Day 1

5 am – arise for the day, to get to airport by 7 am

Plan departs on time and full; was seated next to a family from the Ft Smith area with two young children (5 months & 2 ½), Victoria and Vinnie.    Vinnie had flown before, but this was his first time to ‘know’ he was flying.   He was great during takeoff – eyes wide, but once he we got to cruising and speed and he realized the ‘ground’ was not immediately under the plane – he did not like it.   Victoria did great for a 5-month-old until the last 10 minutes – then she was over the cramped area she was in.

Landed in Houston, found my students and we all grabbed a lunch – we were only supposed to be in the airport for 2 hours that turned into 4 hours (a story for another day).   Arriving in Huntsville around 5 pm.

Uber took us from airport to hotel where a waiting party of my remaining Team USA students and teams from around the world wear joking, laughing, and eating.  

I met 2 of my education cohorts –

Pat – Team Australia – teaches at a Catholic HS in a city south of Melbourne with around 1200 students.   He experienced a 16-hour flight from Sydney to Dallas.

Pili – Team Chile – she teaches at a school where ‘more students than we can have’, rides a bus one hour to and from the school, has 15 cars, and she teaches English to students who are learning the mechanic and electrical trade.
