It was so great to see all the returning faces tonight and I loved meeting all the new students. I can't wait for this school year to start. Have I mentioned the new textbooks - woohoo! Remember to complete your Summer Math Worksheets.
These packets were handed out to students the last week of school. Remember, these will be the first grades in the gradebook for the new year! So, don't forget to get them done. You can print them out from the links below or if you catch someone in the office at school - there are some in the office. Hope your having a great summer - just take a few minutes each day to work on your math. Did you hear? The Sojourners were in town from June 4-14. They came to town to do some work around the school. They painted the walls upstairs (it looks so different and amazing), painted the bricks at the preschool entrance to the main building, installed more backpack holders for the older students, did some plumbing, and electrical projects. And that is just the things I know about. But, I left out something - you know that pesky wall between the math & chemistry classroom - it is GONE! We now have a GIGANTIC classroom. I am so VERY EXCITED for next year. I am so very thankful for the hard work of the Sojourners. This wasn't even on the list of things to do. A contractor was going to come in and look at it this summer. And I was just hoping for a large entryway between the classrooms. But they took the whole wall out. It is so amazing. Its the end of the year and I have truly enjoyed having these students in class. Some days were rough, but others were great. My favorite days were the ones, when the light went on above their heads and I knew they "GOT IT".
I have learned a lot and cannot wait until next year! Have a great summer! Not to be left out, the Chemistry class had to research careers in science. Instead of a slide presentation, they created 4 minute videos and recruitment flyers. Their video had to include a company logo of a company that employs that job, and cost of living for the location of that company.
We want the students to be ready for a fresh new year, in August. By completing these packets over the summer, the students will be one step ahead and ready for the new school year.
These packets were handed out before school was out to each student. They don't need to be completed all at once (unless they wait to the last minute). These are REQUIRED and will be added to the grade book on the 2nd day of school. Don't start the year off with a ZERO in the grade book. The final presentation project for year, was to create a presentation on a Math Career. Requirements included: minimum 10 slides long, a company that employs that career, and cost of living in the location of that company.
